Day 4 at Home & First Bath

Things are going good.
It's hard... no doubt.
That transition.
Josie had some jaundice when we left the hospital and did not feed really well while we were there.
We had a pediatrician appt the day after we got home. She lost a good bit of weight.
I was scared.
She would get so angry when trying to nurse.
She hardly nursed that day.
So that night I called the pediatrician and she suggested we supplement to get her some energy to nurse.
So we did through out that night. 3-4 times I think.
The next morning she went in to get weighed and gained 3.5 oz back.
:)
And immediately nursed when she got home...
and has nursed 100% ever since!
My milk still hasn't come in.
Think it's delayed due to not nursing well at the hospital and the stress I had w/her not nursing at home at first.
We have another pediatrician appt in the morning to get weighed and see how her jaundice is doing.
Will update!
Til then...
Here are some photos from Day 4 at home and her first bath tonight!

  12. Gorgeous! She is adorable. Sorry to hear about the jaundice. My son had it as well -even had to be put on light therapy. Best advice I received - feed, feed, feed. Sounds like you're doing everything right!
P.S. Hope your milk comes in soon!

  16. She's beautiful!! :) :)
I had a little trouble nursing Katie in the beginning, and the best thing that I found (from a lactation specialist in the hospital) was to give her a tiny tiny bit of sugar water right before I started nursing her. It would get her hungry and willing to nurse.
It sounds like you don't have to worry about it anymore though, so glad! I know how stressful that is.

And such amazing photography! Oh, if it wasn't for a permanent, (almost) non-reversible medical procedure that was had by- I won't say whether it WAS my husband or me, only that it wasn't me, I would be so ready for another little one! CONGRATULATIONS!! Gorgeous!! :)

    Josie is Ah- Dor- Able...congratulations!
Until your milk comes in, you can latch her onto your breast and with a little medicine dropper (eye dropper) put a little formula down your breast into the corner of her mouth...she'll get something for her efforts and you don't have to use bottles. Good luck!!!!

  31. Congrats! She is adorable!
Thankfully that supplementing thing worked in your favor-usually doesn't. Once they get the easy nipple, they many times don't want the hard one they ahve to work at! If you have issues, consult a lactation consultant your midwives suggest.
Many blessings and prayers! My first was a bili baby... we went home with the bili blanket and it worked out. :) She is SO stinkin' CUTE!

  32. she is a tiny little thing, eh? most babies lose weight...just relax. the first few weeks are really hard when you start out nursing...and there will probably be many times where you might want to quit. but you can do this. the best thing to do is keep nursing. the more you nurse the easier it will be. i kept getting mastitis with my oldest (due to underwire nursing bras)...but you have to keep going. it will get easier and eventually, you won't even have to think about it. and since you should be resting with josie, nurse laying down. being able to do that is a God-send. another recommendation for a lactation consultant if you have any more issues. it WILL get easier. =0)

So sweet! Don't worry...when the milk comes in, you'll be looking for the 'off' button! She'll be ok with the supplements...can't wait to see her!

  34. Congratulations! Josie is just beautiful :) The labour and birth is the easy bit compared to bubba and you learning the feeding thing for the first time....with my first it was intense but so so worth it in the end! Enjoy every moment of having your precious little girl by your side xx
